Peter Tosh Poetry & Reggae Tribute

Sounds of Edutainment – in partnership with Botsotso Publishers, T-shirt Terrorist, the Joubert Park Project, Kulture, Park Communications, Kwazi Khali Productions, White Dove Designs and Rebelations Media – will host the Peter Tosh Poetry/Reggae Tribute in celebration of the musical legacy of a legendary reggae icon, Peter Tosh, Drill Hall in Jozi on Saturday, 25th October 2008 all night long.

The evening features performances by DJ’s and poets Empress Gaia, Kush Selekta, Man of the Past, Ras Maloney, Supreme, Siza Nkosi, Thobile Bisemelo, Sis’ Thando and Rebel Prince, the MC of the Day.

Born Winston Hubert in Westmoreland, Jamaica on 19th October 1944, Tosh was murdered on 11th September 1987 in his own house in Kingston.

A revolutionary singer and musician, he started playing guitar at a very tender age. Along with Bob Marley and Bunny Wailer, he founded the Wailers and went on to become a successful reggae icon. Some of his international hits include: Legalize It, Apartheid, Equal Rights, Maga Dog and many more.

Sounds of Edutainment organizes poetry sessions, some to remember historical figures and events; help develop healthy youth by promoting appreciation for poetry and music; and prevention of crime, disease, drug abuse, hate, poverty and inequality.

Established in 1997, Sounds of Edutainment has undertaken arts-for-health projects in partnership with Aids Consortium, Botsotso Publishers, Education Rights Projects(Wits), Gauteng Health Department, Jubilee SA, Khanya College, Levi’s, Motheho Mokhantso Innovators, Ozee Productions, Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, Sowetan, T-shirt Terrorist, Wits Writing Center and many others.
