Book Launch: Sections of Six from Botsotso

Botsotso goes to the Witness Hilton Arts Festival

Botsotso 15100 Papers by Liesl JobsonOut of the Wreckage by Allan Kolski HorwitzFollowing the successful launch of Botsotso 15 at the Jozi Spoken Word Festival, Botsotso Publishing will be making two appearances at The Witness Hilton Arts Festival in Hilton, KwaZulu Natal next weekend.

On Saturday, KwaZulu-Natal poets Kobus Moolman, Mphutlane Bofelo, Brett Beiles and Sarah Frost will read live, followed by an open mic session.

On Sunday, a panel discussion with writers Allan Kolski Horwitz, Liesl Jobson, and Peter Rule will answer the questions: Is the short story a dying art? Or is the form about to have its day?

Two New Titles Launched at Jozi Spoken Word Fest

Allan Kolski Horwitz at Jozi Spoken WordLiesl Jobson ReadingBackdrop at Jozi Spoken Word FestivalFriday evening was the main event of the vibrant four-day long Jozi Spoken Word Festival. It started with the joint book launch of Botsotso 15 and Liesl Jobson’s View from an Escalator. This debut poetry collection was the recipient of a generous Community Publishing Project Grant from the Centre for the Book and the NLSA, and is a co-publication with Botsotso.

The event in the Wits Amphitheatre was well attended by Joburg poetry lovers. Performers read against a spectacular backdrop – a painting which spread across the stage had been curated by Lionel Murcott and co-created with Juanita Frier and Conrad van Straten during the previous evening’s Women’s Month festivities.

“Isis X” Opens at Constitution Hill

Alice Moloto, Junior Litelu and Smax TlaliBotsotso launched an exhibition of photographs and poems by South African women at the Women’s Jail at Constitution Hill on Thursday, 2 August.

Poets, photographers and personalities shared their vision with the audience at a packed event. Myesha Jenkins emceed the programme which included actress Keketso Semoko, poets Liz Trew, Baitse Mokiti, Bongekile Mbanjwa, photographer Anna Varney and film maker Odette Geldenhuis.
